The PC 12 Adventure race in Colombia forms part of the Adventure Race World Series – a series supported by Squirt Cycling Products in 2023.
The event took place in the Antioquia region of Colombia which promises “magic and biodiversity in one event”. To quote the event website: “the route covers majestic mountains, spectacular rivers of crystal waters, and natural paths where nature is at its fullest. Amazing birds, funny monkeys, and prehistoric iguanas will be your company in many segments. As you race, you will be enchanted. PC12 is a race where there is no obvious CP12 (Check Point 12) however somewhere along your route you will find a hidden CP12 and it will be the CP of your dreams.”
What a lovely description.
As most teams approached Transition Area 6 to switch between trekking and mountain biking, they were unaware that it was the hidden CP12 – a surprise transition area where teams had more facilities and food available to support them on their expedition.
This year the race also fulfilled the dreams of Escuela Rural Santa Isabel – the school hosting the checkpoint. It is a small school in a very poor area with only 10 pupils. The race organization painted and repaired the school and built new toilet facilities for them in the lead-up to the event. They also gave the pupils some small presents.
It was the most exciting school day for pupils, seeing strange visitors from different countries and speaking different languages.
